looking for a cool apt in Hyde Park for $500?? [May. 18th, 2008|11:15 am]

austin_texas

[mediavixen]
I am moving out of state and need to find someone to rent my apartment.
It will NOT be a sublet, you will have to sign a new lease with my landlord.
He will need to run a credit check and rental history.

The Apartment:
Has a small kitchen with full sized Fridge and Stove
Plenty of cabinet space and a pantry
Small linen closet with deep shelves for towels, blankets etc
Built in bookshelf that serves as a room divider
(separates the "living area" from the "sleeping area")
bathtub/shower combo with separate vanity area
HUGE walk in closet
light blue carpet and neutral linoleum (in kitchen and bathroom) installed in January 2008
does NOT allow pets
Rent is $500 a month
(which is a great deal for the area)

The Neighborhood:
40th and Duval in Hyde Park
Walk to Mother's, Hyde Park Grill, Fresh Plus Grocery
less than a mile from Hancock Center ( HEB, It's a Grind, Jason's Deli, Freebirds, etc)
Easy access to Red River - takes you straight downtown
Close to bus route
CUTE...SAFE...AWESOME NEIGHBORHOOD

I will pay June's rent, but might not be here the whole month.
Looking for someone to move in after June 20th
If you need to move in earlier, we may be able to work something out
I think there will be a $500 security deposit up front and the first month's rent due when you get the keys

Please let me know immediately if you are interested.
Thanks-
Rebecca

Got up at 9. Left at 11. Got to the con and went straight to the dealers room. Bought an FLCL art book. Then I bought a Takkun plush. Then I bought a Canti plush. Then I bought a Haruko plush. Then I bought the FLCL Ultimate Box Set. Then I bought a black Halcali shirt. Then I bought a pink Halcali shirt. Then I bought a Sonic car decal. Then I bought a Yoshi car decal. Then I bought an FLCL car decal. Then I bought a paw print car decal. Then I bought some Worls Ends pins. Then I bought a Blue Peelander pillow. Then we went to go see the second Halcali concert. Then we got in line for Halcali. Then I met them and they recognized me from the concerts. Then they were amazed by my shirt and iPhone. Then I ran off and cried by myself for a little while. Then I went to the bemanistyle panel and it was fucking gay. Then I went to the arcade and failed drummania twice cause the stool was too high and I accidentally threw a stick twice. Then we met up with Randy and he gave me an awesome CD case and a fucking signed pillows CD inside!! Then we all talked for a while. Then we went to 7/11 but it was closed. Yeah.. Then we went back to the con and went to a room party and hung out then we left to go sleep cause we gotta wake up early for Six Flags tomorrow.

That's pretty much it. See you tomorrow!

LBJ #95 top high school according to Newsweek [May. 17th, 2008|11:19 pm]

austincommunity

[stavegirl27]
I just came across this tonight- the 1300 top US public high schools as reported by Newsweek.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/39380/?q=2008/rank/1/

Apparently, LBJ is on the list at #95! It's the highest rated Austin area school on there- the next one is Anderson at #386. I would definitely say there are much, much better high schools here.

I don't know about you, but my boyfriend graduated from LBJ in 98 and I have heard numerous stories of students and teachers taking education there as a big joke.

Is there something I'm missing here??

I just got a new job in the Bee Caves area, but I live in the central area.  What cool after work type things should I put on the to-do list?

mango katy's [May. 17th, 2008|05:32 pm]

although it's been around for a few months i finally went into mango katy's the other day while shopping at the tech ridge target.

now, maybe i don't have a lot of experience with places like this but i thought they had damn fine fruit cups. i got the strawberry with sweet cream and it was so good i decided to get a cucumber cup with chile lime seasoning to go.

if i was alone i probably would have licked the cup like a shameless hussy but hey, there were people watching.

they also have mexican-style corn cups and nice big bowls of fruit for dinners and parties.
oh and a crap load of paletas in all sorts of flavors, including cucumber chile.

mmmmmmmmmmmm.

Lost: Brindle Greyhound [May. 17th, 2008|04:34 pm]

[redwood8605]

So my elderly special needs Greyhound escaped from my yard this morning. I have already reported it to all necessary authorities and hung signs and posted on craigslist, but I thought I'd give this a shot even though its an Austin community and we are in Leander.

Her name is Amber. She is wearing a blue collar and weighs about 75 lbs. She is terrified of strangers. Lost in the Northcreek subdivision (Near the HEB Plus on the corner of Bagdad and Old 2243 West). Thanks!

read a book read a book [May. 17th, 2008|04:10 pm]

The Austin Public Library booksale is running for a few more hours today and for most of tomorrow. Tons of books priced to move. It's a fun treasure hunt type occasion. Hardbacks are $2 and paperbacks are $1. Kid books are extra cheap at $1 a hardback and 2/$1 paperback. There's tons of stuff around, period, but there is especially a lot of mystery, romance, and westerns, as well as history and self-help.

I got a dozen books for less than $20. Anyhow, thought that might be a worthwhile heads up for some folks.

I'm so tired I can't think anymore... [May. 17th, 2008|04:01 pm]

My sister's wedding is this weekend and she neglected to be available or have suggestions for all the out of town guests who want things to do around Austin.   This fun task has fallen on me.  I've managed to keep them busy during the day by taking them to SoCo and doing some other random austin things, but I have to figure out where to take everyone tonight after the rehearsal dinner (at Hills Cafe).

We've got about 10 folks ranging from 20-60 who want to "live it up Austin-style".  They'd like to see downtown.

Places I've already voted AGAINST:
Iron Cactus (no to restaurants)
any sort of shot-bar
Belmont (not austiny enough)
Opals (too chill)

Thing I want:
Some place with no or minimal cover
fun atmosphere and good for that age range....

I'm at a loss and just can't think anymore.

tree removal? [May. 17th, 2008|03:53 pm]

in the wake the of the recent storm, i realise that i really need to get 2 HUGE hackberry trees at the back of our property removed, before they fall onto my (or anyone else's) home. fortunately there aren't any power lines back there, but the site is a little hard to get to, and would mean coordinating between one or two neighbours, probably.

the reason i haven't done it sooner is the cost. i've had 2 very professional arborist-on-staff tree pruning companies give me a quotes of around $3400 to remove both trees. yikes!

can anyone recommend a maybe, uh, less professional and cheaper outfit who can do a good job? i don't need the tree pruned, i just need them chopped down. :) though obviously, they would have to know what they're doing, and not hurt themselves or damage any property.

just thought some of you might like to know...

el chile opened a new location off greystone (near far west) and they don't have their liquor license yet. what does that mean for you? it means you get 2 free margaritas with each entree purchased.

Rex Block pattern kept us with chances of showers, storms [May. 17th, 2008|02:48 pm]

austinindiecast

Classic Rex Block Credit: twp.com

I haven't posted about the weather for this weekend because the chance of more severe storms in our area is very low, and really, I needed a break from all the blogging of earlier this week ;)

Variably cloudy to overcast conditions should continue through the weekend, with perhaps some sun on Sunday. Showers and thundershowers are possible, but should stay below severe limits today. I tend to think that there could be a somewhat better chance of a severe storm Sunday afternoon, however, *should* a thunderstorm storm develop then.

Opinion chances of measurable precip during a time frame in Austin
Remainder of today: Increasing to 50% by tonight, then decreasing
Tonight-Overnight: 30%
Sunday: 30%

Opinion chances of significant weather somewhere in Travis County during a time frame
Sat Aft-Eve: Heavy (low to fair), Hail (low to fair), Lg. Hail (low), Dmg Wind (low), Tornado (ex low)
Sat Night-Overnight: Heavy (low to fair), Hail (low), Lg. Hail (low), Dmg Wind (low), Tornado (ex low)
Sunday Morn: Heavy (low), Hail (low), Lg. Hail (low), Dmg Wind (very low), Tornado (ex low)
Sunday Aft: Heavy (low to fair), Hail (low to fair), Lg. hail (low), Dmg Wind (low), Tornado (very low)

Chocolates... [May. 17th, 2008|01:11 pm]

devilmiyu
A reflection of how much of a chocoholic I am, I once told a friend that Chocolate is not a treat -- it's a necessity.

I spotted this silly thing on someone's livejournal. I figured, hey it's chocolate. I might as well do it for chocolate and for the hell of it. So here you go:

What Your Taste in Chocolate Says About You

You are sweet, mellow, and easily satisfied.
You don't like anything too intense and dramatic.
Deep down, you're a kid at heart... and you're nostalgic for the past.

You are down to earth and lovable.
A true friend, you're very tolerant and understanding.
In fact, your friends' biggest problem is that they don't like each other!

You love being by yourself and thinking.
Developing your own theories and ideas is fun.
You feel lost when you're forced to be social.
Being with other people can be lonely for you.

And yeah, I've been noticing a lot of public posts on my journal lately. I vaguely recall saying that I'm not going to make a habit of doing this. But this isn't really a big deal. It's not like I'm talking about anything personal except for my chocolate fixation. :P

Enjoy.

Acen? Dame yo [May. 17th, 2008|01:40 pm]

night_watch
I went with Scott to check out Acen. Since we couldn't be there Friday, it made no sense to preregister. Due to delays on the CTA, we got there around 12:15 PM. No problem right?

There were people who had arrived at 7:15 in the morning still standing in the fucking registration line.

No thanks. I bailed. Acen is fun and all, but I ain't waiting 6 hours. I guess I'm getting old.
